ESTEVE CDMO Invests $80M in China to Expand Global Manufacturing Footprint

The money will be used to relocate, expand, and modernize existing operations.

Editor’s Take: Spray drying and HPAPI manufacturing are technologies that support complex small-molecule API development requirements around the globe.

ESTEVE CDMO is investing more than $80 million in China in an effort to strengthen its global manufacturing footprint. The investment is earmarked to relocate—to Shaoxing—expand and modernize existing operations.

The new Shaoxing site will “significantly” expand, according to ESTEVE CDMO, the company’s manufacturing capabilities in Asia. This involves a combination of increased capacity, advanced technologies, and the flexibility to accommodate future growth.

Typically, ESTEVE CDMO offers technologies including spray drying and highly potent API (HPAPI) manufacturing. This supports increasingly complex international requirements of small-molecule API development and manufacturing.

ESTEVE CDMO in China

ESTEVE CDMO’s presence in China dates back to the year 2000. In that time, operations in China have come to complement available manufacturing capabilities across Europe, the Americas, and Asia.

In terms of area, the new facility has three manufacturing workshops housing a total reaction volume of 250 cubic meters. On top of that, more than 150 cubic meters are reserved for future development. The simple math—over 400 cubic meters of total reaction volume may be made available as manufacturing needs evolve.

More Manufacturing

“This investment is an important step in the sustained growth of ESTEVE CDMO[‘s] global manufacturing platform,” President Joan Petit said. “[It] allows us to bring our capabilities closer to customers in Asia while leveraging the expertise of our global network. Our ambition is clear: build a leading global CDMO business with the capabilities and flexibility to support our partners worldwide. This is what drives us: making a difference for patients and contributing to our shared purpose of improving lives together.”

ESTEVE CDMO says the new site achieved a “Very Good” rating from the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method. This, the company says, speaks to the environmental, health, and safety considerations integrated into the facility’s design and operation.
